Space Planning: Indoor and Outdoor Placement
Indoor Placement Checklist
Dedicated electrical circuit. All Sun Home saunas require a dedicated circuit — not a shared household outlet. Confirm your breaker panel has an available slot for the required amperage (20A or 30A depending on model). A licensed electrician should verify capacity before purchase.
Flat, level flooring. Hard flooring (tile, concrete, hardwood) is ideal. Carpet is not recommended — heat and moisture can degrade carpet and padding over time. If placing on hardwood, consider a protective mat underneath.
Ceiling height. Allow at least 12 inches above the top of the sauna for air circulation and heat dissipation. Standard 8-foot ceilings work for most models. Check the Pod's 72-inch height — it fits under standard ceilings with clearance.
Door swing clearance. Ensure the sauna door can open fully without hitting walls, furniture, or other obstacles. Measure the door swing arc before finalizing placement.
Ventilation. A room with some air exchange is recommended. A sauna in a sealed closet or unventilated room may overheat the surrounding space. A bathroom, spare bedroom, or garage with a window or vent works well.
Delivery path. Measure doorways, hallways, and stairways. Sun Home saunas ship as panels and assemble inside using the tool-free Magne-Seal system — individual panels fit through standard doorways. Confirm the assembled footprint fits the intended room.
Outdoor Placement Checklist (Luminar Only)
Level, well-drained surface. Concrete pad, paver base, or reinforced deck. Avoid placing directly on grass or dirt — standing water under the sauna can freeze in winter and create an unstable base.
240V dedicated circuit. The Luminar 2P requires 240V/20A (L6-20P). The Luminar 5P requires 240V/30A (L6-30P). A licensed electrician should run weatherproof conduit and install the appropriate outdoor-rated receptacle.
Clearance. Sun Home recommends 4–6 inches around the sauna and 20–24 inches above the roof for air circulation and maintenance access.
Access path for delivery. The Luminar 2P weighs ~870 lbs and the 5P weighs ~1,270 lbs. Ensure the delivery path from the street to the final placement location can accommodate freight delivery. Discuss placement logistics with Sun Home before ordering.
No cover required. The Luminar's aluminum exterior and pitched stainless steel roof are engineered for permanent outdoor placement without a cover. No seasonal storage needed. See: No Cover Required →

The Honest Truth About Sauna Capacity Claims
"2-person" and "4-person" are industry-standard labels — every sauna brand uses them. Here is what they actually mean in practice:
| Capacity label | What it means on paper | What it means in real life | Our honest advice |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-person | Designed for 1 adult | Comfortable for 1 average-sized adult. May feel snug for taller or broader adults. | If you are larger, try the Equinox 2P for solo use instead of the Solstice 1P or Pod. |
| 2-person | Designed for 2 adults side by side | Fits 2 average-sized adults. Two larger adults may find shoulders touching. One person finds it spacious. | If either partner is larger than average, consider the 3-person model. A 2P used solo is one of the most comfortable sauna experiences. |
| 3-person | Designed for 3 adults or 2 adults + 1 child | Comfortable for 2 average adults with extra room. 3 adults will fit but is snug for daily use. | Best as a "roomy 2-person" or "2 adults + 1 older child." For 3 adults daily, consider the 4P. |
| 4-person | Designed for up to 4 adults | Comfortable for 2–3 adults with room. 4 adults will fit but is best for occasional group use, not daily 4-person sessions. | Best as a "spacious 3-person" or for couples who want maximum room. Great for households where 2 adults use it daily and occasionally invite guests. |
| 5-person (Luminar 5P) | Designed for up to 5 adults | Comfortable for 3–4 adults with room. 5 adults is maximum capacity, not ideal daily configuration. | Best for families of 3–4 or couples who want a large, open cabin. Also ideal for entertaining and social sauna sessions with guests. |
Choosing by Feature Priority (Not Just Size)
Size is not the only variable. Here is how to narrow by feature:
| If you want… | Choose… | Available sizes |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest price | Solstice | 1P, 2P, 3P, 4P |
| Far infrared (halogen + carbon) | Equinox, Eclipse, or Luminar | 2P, 3P, 4P, 5P |
| Red light therapy (factory-integrated) | Eclipse or Pod | 1P (Pod), 2P, 4P (Eclipse) |
| Sun Home app + guided breathwork | Eclipse, Pod, or Luminar | 1P (Pod), 2P (Eclipse/Luminar), 4P (Eclipse), 5P (Luminar) |
| 120V/20A NEMA 5-20P dedicated circuit | Solstice 1–3P, Equinox 2–3P, Pod, Eclipse 2P* | 1P–3P (*Eclipse 2P needs 30A L5-30P — confirm outlet) |
| Outdoor placement | Luminar only | 2P, 5P |
| Apartment-friendly (compact + 120V) | Solstice 1P, Pod, or Equinox 2P | 1P, 2P |

FAQs
Is a 2-person sauna big enough for 2 people?
Yes — for two average-sized adults. Two larger adults may find shoulders touching on the bench. If either partner is taller, broader-shouldered, or prefers more personal space, consider the Equinox 3P for more comfortable daily tandem use. A 2-person sauna used by one person is spacious and very comfortable. Check published interior dimensions for the specific model before purchasing.
Which Sun Home sauna is best for one person?
Budget solo: Solstice 1P (~$4,999, far-infrared, 120V). Solo with RLT + app: Pod (~$6,699, cylindrical, 660+850nm). Spacious solo with full-spectrum: Equinox 2P (from $6,099 — a 2P used solo is roomy and comfortable). If you are taller or broader than average, the Equinox 2P is likely more comfortable than the Solstice 1P or Pod for daily solo use.
Which Sun Home sauna is best for couples?
Best value: Equinox 2P (from $6,099, full-spectrum, 120V). More room: Equinox 3P ($7,299). With RLT: Eclipse 2P ($10,099, factory 1,800W RLT, app). Premium outdoor: Luminar 2P ($11,099, aluminum, app, Fortune Best Outdoor). If either partner is larger than average, consider the 3P for daily comfort.
Which Sun Home sauna is best for a family?
Family of 3 (indoor): Equinox 3P ($7,299) or Eclipse 4P (adds RLT + app, 240V). Family of 4 (indoor): Eclipse 4P or Solstice 4P (240V). Family of 3–5 (outdoor): Luminar 5P ($13,899, 240V/30A, aluminum, app, largest Sun Home sauna). For daily family use, size up from the "person count" that matches your family — buy one size larger for daily comfort.
Should I size up?
In most cases, yes. The extra cost of one size up is small compared to the daily discomfort of a cabin that feels too tight. Size up if: either user is taller, broader-shouldered, or prefers more personal space, you plan to use it daily with a partner, you want room to shift positions or stretch during longer sessions, or you occasionally invite guests. The only reason to not size up: space constraints (apartment, small room) or strict budget where the larger model is out of range.
Do all Sun Home saunas have the app?
No. The Sun Home app with guided breathwork, remote preheat, and session scheduling is available on Eclipse 2P/4P, Pod, and Luminar 2P/5P. The Equinox and Solstice lines do not include the app — they use dual interior/exterior control panels. If app-guided sessions matter to you, choose Eclipse, Pod, or Luminar.
What electrical circuit does my Sun Home sauna need?
All Sun Home saunas require a dedicated circuit — not a shared household outlet. 120V/20A: Equinox 2P/3P, Solstice 1–3P, Pod. 120V/30A (L5-30P twist-lock): Eclipse 2P. 240V/20A (L6-20P): Luminar 2P. 240V/30A (L6-30P): Eclipse 4P, Luminar 5P, Solstice 4P. A licensed electrician is recommended for all 240V and 30A installations. Confirm your home's circuit capacity before purchasing.
