Outdoor Saunas

Sun Home Luminar, our flagship outdoor infrared sauna — the aerospace aluminum exterior requires no cover, staining, sealing, or annual maintenance in any climate. Most wood-exterior models (cedar barrels, thermowood cubes, hemlock cabins) require or benefit from a protective cover and periodic treatment to prevent weathering.

Yes. The Luminar is engineered for permanent exterior placement. Aerospace aluminum and stainless steel are unaffected by rain, snow, UV, salt air, or freeze-thaw cycling. No cover required for normal outdoor use. Most wood-exterior alternatives need seasonal care and protective covering.

Infrared heats your body directly at 120–170°F and reaches temperature in about 15–20 minutes (60+ minutes below 40°F). Traditional saunas heat the air to 195°F+ and allow steam (löyly) by pouring water over heated stones — a different experience, not a better or worse one. Sun Home builds both: Luminar for outdoor infrared, the Solaris line for outdoor traditional heat, plus our indoor infrared saunas and the Nova indoor traditional sauna.

The Luminar arrives palletized at the curb, and its prefabricated panels assemble with two or more people in about half a day. The primary cost is the 240V electrical circuit ($500–$1,500, licensed electrician) plus site preparation (level surface, concrete pad or paver base). Total beyond the sauna price: typically $500–$2,500.

Yes — aluminum is unaffected by pool chemicals, chlorine splash, and humidity. Position the window walls facing the pool for visual impact; the cedar interior glows through the black-tinted glass at night. Contrast therapy (sauna → pool) is a common use pattern. Pair it with a cold plunge tub for an elevated recovery experience. Ensure the dedicated 240V circuit has GFCI protection: a GFCI breaker or GFCI outlet for the Luminar 2-person, a GFCI breaker for the Luminar 5-person; check local code.

Yes — the Luminar requires a 240V dedicated circuit with GFCI protection (2P: 20A, GFCI breaker or GFCI outlet; 5P: 30A, GFCI breaker; check local code), which typically costs $500–$1,500 installed. If you need a 120V option, consider an indoor model like the Equinox (120V) placed near a patio door for indoor-outdoor flow.
