Choosing the right cold plunge comes down to three main things:
space, setup preference, and how you plan to use it.
At Sun Home, we offer four models across two categories, inflatable and hard shell. Each one delivers powerful cold therapy, but the experience and footprint are a little different.
Here’s how to decide what fits your space and routine best.
Step 1: Do You Want Portable or Permanent?
Inflatable Models
• Inflatable Horizontal Cold Plunge
• Inflatable Vertical Cold Plunge
These are ideal if you:
Want something lightweight and portable
Plan to move or store it between uses
Need flexibility in a rental space
Prefer a lower upfront investment
Inflatable models are easy to set up and break down, and they are a great entry point into cold immersion therapy. They are especially popular for outdoor setups, travel, or customers who are still testing how often they will plunge.
They are durable, but they are not designed to feel like a permanent spa installation.
Hard Shell Models
• Cold Plunge Pro (horizontal)
• Cold Plunge Pro Apex (vertical)
These are best if you:
Want a long term, high performance solution
Plan to plunge frequently
Prefer a premium, finished look
Want to plunge in a tub with ice
Want a fully integrated solution
The hard shell models are designed for daily use and long term durability. They have the capability to generate ice. All components are fully integrated into the tub shell, and they are meant to stay set up year round.
If you are building out a dedicated wellness space, this is usually the direction customers go.
Step 2: Horizontal or Vertical?
This mostly comes down to comfort and footprint.
Horizontal (Lie Back Style)
Best for:
Stretching out fully
Taller individuals
A more traditional spa style experience
Larger spaces
Horizontal plunges allow you to recline and extend your legs. They require more floor space but feel more open and spacious.
Models available:
Inflatable Horizontal Cold Plunge
Cold Plunge Pro
Vertical (Upright Soak)
Best for:
Smaller spaces
A compact footprint
Deep immersion in a smaller area
Urban homes or garage gyms
Vertical models take up less floor space while still allowing full body immersion. You’ll sit upright with knees bent, similar to a deep soaking tub.
Models available:
Inflatable Vertical Cold Plunge
Cold Plunge Pro Apex
If space is tight, vertical is often the smartest choice.
Step 3: How Often Will You Use It?
Occasional or seasonal use
An inflatable model may be perfect. It delivers the benefits without committing to a permanent setup.
Multiple times per week or daily use
The Cold Plunge Pro or Pro Apex is the better long term investment. The built in cooling and filtration system supports consistent use with minimal maintenance.
If you already know this will become part of your daily recovery routine, it usually makes sense to choose the hard shell model upfront.
Step 4: Indoor vs Outdoor Setup
All models can be used indoors or outdoors, but think about:
Access to power
Drainage
Climate conditions
Whether you want something that stays out year round
Hard shell models are especially popular for garage gyms, covered patios, and dedicated wellness rooms. Inflatable models are often chosen for flexibility and seasonal use.
The portable Cold Plunge, while it can be used outdoors must be protected against precipitation.
If you live in an extreme climate, a more permanent, insulated solution may offer better consistency.
Quick Comparison
Choose Inflatable If You Want:

Still Not Sure?

How much space do I realistically have?
Will I move this in the next year?
How often will I truly use it?
Do I want portable or permanent?
