About this collection
What is the best outdoor sauna that doesn't need a cover?
Sun Home Luminar — the aerospace aluminum exterior requires no cover, staining, sealing, or annual maintenance in any climate. Most wood-exterior models (cedar barrels, thermowood cubes, hemlock cabins) require or benefit from a protective cover and periodic treatment to prevent weathering.
Can this sauna stay outside year-round?
Yes. The Luminar is engineered for permanent exterior placement. Aerospace aluminum and stainless steel are unaffected by rain, snow, UV, salt air, or freeze-thaw cycling. No cover required for normal outdoor use. Most wood-exterior alternatives need seasonal care and protective covering.
What is the difference between infrared and traditional heat outdoors?
Infrared heats your body directly at 120–170°F and reaches temperature in 10–20 minutes. Traditional saunas heat the air to 195°F+ and allow steam (löyly) by pouring water over heated stones — an experience infrared cannot replicate. Sun Home builds infrared saunas exclusively. For traditional heat: Almost Heaven (cedar barrels) or SaunaLife (modern cubes).
How much does installation cost beyond the sauna?
The Luminar ships fully assembled — no DIY build. The primary cost is the 240V electrical circuit ($500–$1,500, licensed electrician) plus site preparation (level surface, concrete pad or paver base). Total beyond the sauna price: typically $500–$2,500.
Can I put this next to a pool?
Yes — aluminum is unaffected by pool chemicals, chlorine splash, and humidity. Position the window walls facing the pool for visual impact; the cedar interior glows through the black-tinted glass at night. Contrast therapy (sauna → pool) is a common use pattern. Ensure the 240V outlet is GFCI-protected per code.
Do I need 240V?
Yes — the Luminar requires a 240V dedicated circuit (2P: 20A, 5P: 30A), which typically costs $500–$1,500 installed. If you need a 120V option, consider an indoor model like the Equinox ($6,099, 120V) placed near a patio door for indoor-outdoor flow.
What if I want traditional steam instead of infrared?
Sun Home builds infrared saunas only. For traditional heat: Almost Heaven Pinnacle (~$5,500, cedar barrel, Harvia 6kW), SaunaLife CL4G (~$5,900, modern cube, thermo-spruce), or Redwood Outdoors (~$5,500+, thermowood cabin). See our 6-brand comparison guide.

Why Buyers Choose Sun Home for Outdoor Use
Every Luminar model shares the same core architecture: aerospace-grade aluminum exterior with stainless steel roof (no staining, no sealing, no exterior wood treatment), black-tinted double-pane window walls on three sides, marine-grade matte black hardware, integrated LED accent lighting, and full-spectrum infrared heaters reaching 170°F (GGR independently verified 165–170°F). VOC tested at 27 µg/m³ (VERT Environmental, AIHA-accredited). The Sun Home app provides remote preheat, guided breathwork, and session control. Limited lifetime warranty with in-home technician visits in all 50 states. ETL/ETL-C/RoHS/Intertek certified.
