Welcome to Your Luminar Sauna
Congratulations! You are now the owner of a Sun Home Luminar Outdoor infrared sauna. This manual will help you get started, stay safe, and enjoy every session to the fullest.
Your Luminar sauna uses infrared light and heat together to deliver two powerful benefits at once:
- Far infrared heat penetrates deep into your muscles and tissues, boosting circulation and helping your body repair and recover.
- Heat creates a detoxifying sweat, activates heat shock proteins, and gives your body the positive stress it needs to get stronger.
- Full-spectrum heaters on the glass wall add near and mid infrared wavelengths, giving you a broader range of wellness benefits.
Science shows that regular infrared sauna use can help improve circulation, ease pain, support detox, reduce stress, speed up muscle recovery, improve sleep, and boost energy. Your experience is unique. Listen to your body and enjoy the journey.
Start with short sessions (5–10 minutes, 2–3 times per week). As you feel the benefits, gradually increase your session length, temperature, and frequency.

Outdoor Sauna Use Protocol
The Luminar is a full-spectrum infrared sauna rated for outdoor use.
The sauna must be installed on a flat, level surface with drainage. The sauna should not be installed in an area where water may accumulate or puddle.
The concrete pad or other surface should extend at least 6 inches beyond the sauna on all sides.
In environments with high winds, Sun Home offers a free Roof Security Cable kit to anchor your sauna. Please contact us at info@sunhomesaunas.com to request this.
Use of the waterproof canvas cover is optional, but consistent use will preserve the exterior of the sauna and support heat retention in cold weather.
Do not allow snow or precipitation to accumulate on the roof or around the base of the sauna.
Review the warranty for details on coverage regarding pests and weather-related damage.
How to Use Your Sauna
The Luminar is an outdoor full-spectrum infrared sauna which may require a longer warm-up time than indoor models depending on the ambient air temperature. No pre-heating is required before entry. You may begin your session as soon as the sauna is turned on, though optimal temperature is typically reached after 30–45 minutes.
Before Your First Session
- Drink 8–16 oz of water before getting in.
- Remove jewelry. Avoid putting lotions or oils on your skin before a session.
- Bring a towel and prepare to sweat!
- Wear minimal, loose clothing or wrap yourself in a towel.
- Always check with your doctor first if you have any health conditions.
Starting the Luminar Sauna
- Make sure the sauna is plugged into the dedicated GFCI outlet. Press the GFCI RESET button to confirm power is live.
- To activate the ambient lighting during your first session, point the remote at the ceiling and press the “On” button.
- Press the Power button on the control panel to turn the system on. The button backlight will turn red and the current temperature will display on screen.
- Press the Heating button (the flame/heat icon) to activate the infrared heaters. A red border around the button indicates heating is ON; green means OFF.
- Press Mode until the Temp indicator light is on. Use the up/down arrows to set your desired temperature. Recommended: 120–160°F (49–71°C). Range: 90–170°F.
- Press Mode until the Time indicator light is on. Use the up/down arrows to set your session time. Range: 5–60 minutes.
No pre-heating required. Unlike traditional saunas, infrared heat is effective from the moment you turn it on. Get in right away and start enjoying the benefits.
Allow 30–45 minutes for the sauna to warm up (longer in cold weather). You may enter at any time during warm-up.
The default setting is 151°F (66°C) and 60 minutes. On first use, verify each heater is warming up after a few minutes.
It is normal for the heaters to cycle off temporarily once the sauna reaches the set temperature. This is by design. Do not manually keep the heaters on continuously, as it will reduce their lifespan. Set your temperature and leave the heater controls alone for the rest of the session.
During Your Session
- If you’re new to infrared saunas, low and slow is best. Beginners: start at 115–120°F for 10–15 minutes. You may slowly increase time and temperature with each session if desired.
- Sip water if you feel thirsty. Stay hydrated throughout the session.
- Exit immediately if you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or unwell.
- Keep sessions to 45 minutes maximum. Typical sessions are 20–45 minutes.
- Do not bring phones, tablets, or other electronics inside. Battery heat is a fire risk.
- Do not use while under the influence of alcohol or medications that affect your response to heat.
- After 2 hours of continuous use, shut the sauna down for at least one hour.
- Do not place objects on or around the full-spectrum heaters. They are extremely hot and will cause burns.
After Your Session
- Turn off the heaters, then press the Power button to shut down the sauna.
- Leave the door open so the inside can air out and dry.
- Unplug the sauna when not in use.
- Wipe down the bench and inside walls with a dry or lightly damp cloth.
- Let your body cool down slowly.
- Drink water or an electrolyte drink to rehydrate.
Bluetooth Music
- Enable Bluetooth on your phone and scan for the device SAUNA BT.
- Connect to SAUNA BT and stream music through the sauna’s built-in speakers.
Note: Volume must be adjusted from your phone; the LED panel has no volume control.
Heat-Up Times & Ambient Temperature
The Luminar is designed for outdoor use, so heat-up time may vary depending on ambient conditions. In cold or windy weather, allow additional time to reach your desired temperature. To ensure maximum heat retention, keep the protective cover on throughout the heat-up process.
You can enter the Luminar as soon as it turns on. Beginners should start sessions at or below 100°F (38°C) and allow the sauna to reach optimal temperature gradually. Experienced users may wait 30–45 minutes for optimal heat.
| CONDITION | ESTIMATED HEAT-UP TIME | NOTES |
|---|---|---|
| Ideal outdoor temp (65–80°F) | 30–45 minutes | Warm, calm weather. May not need cover to retain heat. |
| Cool outdoor temp (40–65°F) | 45–60 minutes | Allow more time. Keep cover on to maximize heat retention. |
| Cold outdoor temp (below 40°F) | 60+ minutes | Will heat up slowly in extreme cold. Keep cover on to maximize heat retention. Clear snow from roof and base before use. |
| Indoor installation | 25–40 minutes | Indoor placement significantly improves heat-up time. |
Factors That Affect Heat-Up Time
- Outdoor ambient temperature: below 40°F adds 20–30+ minutes.
- Wind: strong winds draw heat from the sauna exterior. Sheltered placement helps.
- Protective cover: keeping it on during warm-up traps heat and reduces time significantly.
- Surface type: concrete or basement floors are cooler and slow heat-up. Tile or insulated flooring is better.
- Snow and ice: must be cleared from roof and base. Accumulated snow will significantly impact performance.
- Door closed during warm-up: always keep the door closed until your target temperature is reached.
Chromotherapy & Ambient Lights
Your Luminar sauna includes built-in color LED lighting, called chromotherapy. You can use it during any session to enhance your experience. There are nine color modes, each linked to different wellness benefits.
How to Use Chromotherapy
The chromotherapy panel is a square glass panel installed in the ceiling and features the Sun Home logo. The Luminar 2 has one chromotherapy panel, and the Luminar 5 has two.
To activate chromotherapy, first power the sauna on and press the Bright Lightbulb button (12) to toggle chromotherapy on. The button turns red when ON, green when OFF.
The display will show LX when in color selection mode. Press the button to cycle through modes L1–L9.
Long press the Bright Lightbulb button (12) to adjust brightness (B1–B8) while in any color mode.
The chromotherapy feature is not currently integrated with the Sun Home App. Only the sauna control panel can be used to control the square chromotherapy panel in the ceiling.

Ambient LED Lights
Your Luminar includes ambient LED light strips on the backrests and under the seats. This is not the same as the chromotherapy light.
How to Use Ambient LED Lights
These can be controlled using the white remote control with the color wheel. To activate these lights, point the remote control towards the ceiling and press power on. You can rotate the color wheel to choose your preferred ambient light color.
Red Light Therapy
Optional Red Light Therapy Accessory
Red Light Therapy is an optional added accessory for the Luminar. If you purchased the Red Light Therapy Panel, it attaches to the glass door using the included bolts, and connects to power through the sauna using the spring wire cord and plug.
Red light therapy uses red and near-infrared light to support a variety of conditions. It can help regenerate cells, restore cell function, and increase blood flow, which can help relieve pain and heal. Red light therapy can also help with muscle and joint pain and stiffness, and can relax muscles.

Safety When Using Red Light with Sauna Heaters
Do not look directly into the red light panel. Prolonged direct staring may cause eye strain or retinal stress over time. Protective goggles are optional — you may instead look away or close your eyes. Carefully read the warnings below regarding goggle use.
Wearing protective goggles while the heaters are on limits your visibility and increases the risk of accidental contact with hot surfaces. Always position yourself safely before putting on goggles and do not move while wearing them.
- Always sit down and position yourself away from the full-spectrum heaters before putting on protective goggles.
- Do not move or reposition while wearing goggles. If you need to move, remove the goggles first and confirm the location of all heating elements before proceeding.
- Keep a safe distance from all heaters at all times. Contact with any heater surface can cause severe burns.
- Red light therapy panels are not FDA-approved to diagnose, treat, or cure medical conditions. For general wellness use only.
- Do not use over open wounds or active infections.
- Do not use red light therapy if you have been diagnosed with melanoma or any form of skin cancer, or if you are undergoing cancer treatment. Consult your physician or oncologist before use if you have a history of skin cancer, are sensitive to light, or are taking photosensitizing medications. This device is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition.
