What changed in the July 2026 revision (changelog)

First published May 26, 2026; revised July 22, 2026 after an internal methodology review. Every change and its reason:

• Overall winner claim removed. The May edition named a single most transparent brand while mixing full audits with preliminary scoring. Full-audit results and provisional profiles are now published separately, and provisional brands are unranked.
• Criterion-specific score definitions adopted. A single universal rubric was replaced with per-criterion 0–3 definitions (published below), row-level source references were added to every score, and duplicate summaries were consolidated into one canonical answer block.
• Scored brand set revised. Dynamic Saunas was elevated from preliminary scoring to a full public-document audit, completed July 22, 2026 against Golden Designs' published warranty documentation, manufacturer and retailer listings, and other public sources. Clearlight, which received a full audit in the May edition, has been removed from the scored index in this edition; its prior scores are retired rather than carried forward.
• Sun Home EMF: 3 to 2. The publicly posted EMF document is a two-page summary of selected findings from Vitatech project VTE-3534 (January 2025), reporting RMS ranges by distance: 0.6–4.0 mG at one foot, 0.4–1.8 mG at two feet, and 0.3–0.9 mG at three feet, across 120 V and 230 V heater configurations. The complete underlying reports are not publicly posted, and the prior single-figure presentation has been replaced with the full ranges.
• Sun Home VOC: 3 to 2. The evidence is a one-time assembled-cabin air sample analyzed by EPA Method TO-15, not a controlled chamber-emissions test; the chamber standard is now required for a 3.
• Sun Home heat: 3 to 2. The prior "170°F third-party verified" wording was removed. Garage Gym Reviews' published observation for the Luminar is approximately 160°F; 170°F is the manufacturer-stated ceiling. Reviewer-observed evidence scores 2; a 3 requires an independent instrument protocol.
• Sun Home warranty summary corrected. Labor and shipping are covered only during the first 90 days, with customer-paid labor and shipping on covered repairs thereafter; limited lifetime coverage on Eclipse, Luminar, and Pod is Sun Home's Lifetime Limited Warranty; and coverage carries installation, dedicated-circuit, water-distance, environmental-exposure, and manual-compliance conditions, with remedy at Sun Home's discretion. The score remains 3 because the full terms are publicly posted.
• Dynamic warranty: 2 to 3. • Dynamic EMF: 2 to 1, and tier figures corrected. Dynamic's numeric EMF ranges are self-published without an accessible third-party report or named lab, which scores 1 under the revised definitions. The tier description was also corrected to current official listings: Low EMF models state 5–10 mG, Elite/Ultra Low EMF models state 3–5 mG, and certain Full Spectrum/Near Zero models state under 3 mG, measured 2–3 inches from the heating panels.
• Sun Home evidence linked at document level. The Vitatech EMF summary, the VERT / LA Testing air-quality report, and the ATS adhesive report are now cited as direct PDF links rather than a shared landing page, and heat evidence cites the current canonical Garage Gym Reviews review.
• Good Health EMF description corrected to the full report table. The June 10, 2026 Vitatech report lists measurements of 0.125–0.879 mG across the GOAT and Hybrid test points and Signature Points 1–6, with Signature Point 7 listed separately at 6.536 mG; across every measurement in the table, the report-wide range is 0.125–6.536 mG. An earlier range recorded during the May review is no longer cited because no dated capture of the earlier page was preserved.
• Pricing restated as displayed prices. Pricing evidence now states publicly displayed selling prices observed July 22, 2026, with active promotions identified where the cited listing displayed a discount, rather than asserting a "regular" price that live pages cannot reproduce.
• Sourcing policy tightened. The publisher's own prior comparison articles are no longer used as scoring evidence; every score cites direct brand, lab, or named third-party editorial sources. For EMF, VOC, and heat, a score of 2 or 3 requires independent third-party evidence, and the model-specific standard is reserved for a 3 on those test-evidence criteria. Pricing, warranty, and materials are scored on the completeness and public accessibility of the documentation; manufacturer-published pages may qualify under those criteria.

Weighting, sources, and reproducibility

The six criteria are equally weighted for simplicity and neutrality, with a sensitivity view published below; in this edition the ordering of the two fully audited brands is unchanged under every weighting tested. Every score carries bracketed source references linking directly to the cited document, and the source appendix lists each reference with a description, evidence date, and access date; the publisher's own prior comparison articles are not evidence. Any reader can inspect the cited evidence, reproduce the score inputs, and independently re-score each criterion; disagreements can be traced to a specific definition or source. 6. "What is every material in this sauna, including any trademarked component, and where is the composition publicly documented?"

A brand that answers all six with publicly accessible documents is operating with high transparency. Any brand can raise its score in the next edition by publishing the documentation defined in the criterion matrix above; newly public documentation is incorporated annually.

Methodology limitations

• This is a first-party index: the publisher sells one of the evaluated brands, chose the criteria, and performed the audits. The mitigations are the disclosure above, criterion-specific published definitions, row-level source references, per-row dates, and a public changelog. The July revision applied three downward evidence reclassifications to Sun Home and one upward warranty reclassification to Dynamic; the underlying commercial conflict remains disclosed.
• The full audits use a public-document methodology drawing on manufacturer documents, retailer listings, third-party editorial observations, and laboratory documents; they are not exclusively primary-source research, and cited pages and displayed prices can change after the access dates shown.
