How to Maintain Your Cold Plunge
Taking care of your Cold Plunge ensures clean water, optimal performance, and a consistently elevated experience. Below, you’ll find simple maintenance guidelines based on your model.
A Few General Tips
No matter which plunge you have, a little routine care goes a long way:
- Keep your water fresh and flowing well
- Stay consistent with filter changes
- Keep the area around your chiller clean and well-ventilated
- Check hoses and connections from time to time
If anything feels off, it’s always best to pause use and reach out. We’re here to help.
Cold Plunge Horizontal + Vertical
Designed for simplicity and ease, the Inflatable Cold Plunge requires just a few regular habits.
Ongoing Care
Once a week
- Rinse the metal/mesh filter to remove hair and debris
Every 1–6 weeks
- Replace the paper filter depending on usage:
- Frequent use (5+ times/week): every 2 weeks
- Moderate use (3–5 times/week): monthly
- Light use: every 2 months
- If flow drops below 17 L/min, it’s time to replace the filter
Every 2–3 weeks
- Drain and refresh your water
- Wipe down the tub with a towel
- Use a small drop of gentle dish soap if needed
As needed
- Flush hoses to maintain proper flow
Water Care
If your water stays below 50°F, you typically won’t need additives.
For warmer conditions, a non-chlorine sanitizer can help maintain water quality.
Draining
- Power off the chiller
- Disconnect the outlet hose
- Allow the tub to drain
- Tilt to remove any remaining water
When Not in Use
- Keep your plunge covered
- Drain if unused for more than 3 weeks
- Before storing, briefly run the chiller dry (until the “FL” code appears)
In colder climates, always drain completely to prevent freezing.
Cold Plunge Pro & Apex
Both the Cold Plunge Pro and Apex share the same core system and maintenance approach, with slightly different form factors. The guidance below applies to both.
Filter Care
- Replace your filter regularly to maintain strong water flow
- Minimum: once per month
- With daily use: every 2 weeks
Filter size may vary depending on your unit (earlier vs. newer models), but replacement timing remains the same.
Replacing the Filter
- Power off and unplug the unit
- Access the filtration area (via panel)
- Close shut-off valves
- Remove the filter using the wrench
- Insert new filter and reinstall
- Rinse internal screen filters (no replacement needed)
- Reopen valves and restore power
Draining
- Locate the drain at the base/back of the unit
- Open the valve to release water
- Attach a hose if desired, or drain directly
- A pump can be used to speed up the process
Ongoing Care
- Keep filters clean to protect the system
- Ensure strong, consistent water flow
- Keep the chiller area clean for proper heat exchange
- Allow space around the unit for ventilation
- Periodically check cables and connections
When Not in Use
- Drain the unit if it won’t be used for a period of time
- Always drain before freezing temperatures
- Before restarting, ensure the system is fully filled
Mineral Buildup (Pro & Apex Only)
With stainless steel models, you may occasionally notice mineral buildup, especially in areas with hard water. This is normal and cosmetic.
Light Cleaning
In most cases, warm water and a soft cloth—or the included scrub pad—is all you need.
Deeper Cleaning
For more noticeable buildup, we recommend Bar Keepers Friend (powder):
- Mix with water to form a paste
- Apply gently with a soft cloth
- Wipe in the direction of the grain
- Let sit briefly (1–3 minutes), then rinse and dry
Repeat as needed.
A Note of Care
To preserve the finish, avoid:
- Steel wool
- Bleach
- Abrasive pads
- Harsh chemicals
If you notice anything beyond surface buildup—like pitting or persistent discoloration—reach out and we’ll take a closer look with you.
Cold Weather & Freezing Temperatures
If you live in an area where temperatures drop to freezing, it’s important to fully drain your system to prevent damage.
Standard (Inflatable)
- Always drain the tub and hoses completely
- Run the chiller briefly (until the “FL” code appears) to remove internal water
- Store covered and out of the elements when possible
Cold Plunge Pro & Apex
- Fully drain the unit before temperatures reach freezing
- Ensure no water remains inside the chiller or plumbing
- Do not leave water sitting in the system during freezing conditions
Water left inside the system can freeze, expand, and cause internal damage that is not covered under warranty.
FAQs
How often should I change my water?
- Standard: every 2–3 weeks
- Pro & Apex: depends on usage and filtration, but regular draining is recommended for long-term care
Why is my water flow slower than usual?
This is usually a sign your filter needs to be replaced or cleaned.
For Standard units, check if flow drops below 17 L/min.
Do I need to use chemicals?
- If your water stays below 50°F, typically no
- For warmer conditions, a non-chlorine sanitizer is recommended
What is the buildup I see on my stainless steel tub?
This is mineral buildup (not rust) and is common in areas with hard water. It’s cosmetic and can be cleaned easily (see section above).
How do I know if something is wrong with my unit?
Signs to watch for:
- Unusual noises
- Reduced water flow
- Error codes
- Unusual smells
If you notice any of these, turn off your unit and contact support.
Can I leave my plunge unused with water in it?
We don’t recommend it.
If you won’t be using your plunge for more than a couple of weeks, it’s best to drain and clean it to prevent buildup.
