How to Read the Evidence Labels in This Guide
Every substantive claim below carries one of six labels so you can tell what kind of support stands behind it: [Independent lab verified], [Product-specific certification], [Independent editorial testing], [Warranty document verified], [Peer-reviewed or clinical reference], and [Manufacturer stated]. Apply the same labels when you evaluate any brand. A specification with no label is a marketing claim.
1. Product-Specific Electrical Safety Listing
An infrared sauna is a 1,500–3,000W appliance you sit inside while damp. Electrical safety listing is the single non-negotiable factor. The correct formulation is a product-specific ETL Listed certification issued by Intertek, tested to the applicable UL or CSA safety standard — not “ETL and Intertek” as though those were two separate credentials. ETL is the mark; Intertek is the certification body that issues it.
RoHS is a separate matter. It restricts ten hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment and says nothing about electrical safety. List it separately, and never as a substitute for a listing.
What to require from any brand, per model:
- The exact certification mark (ETL Listed, UL Listed, cUL, CSA)
- The applicable standard number the product was tested to
- The specific model or family the listing covers
- Whether the scope is United States, Canada, or both

- Whether labor is covered, and for how long
- Who pays freight on a covered part, and for how long
- Parts availability commitment after the warranty expires
- The service pathway: in-home technician, authorized installer, or ship-the-part self-repair

This factor is skipped in most buying guides and causes more post-purchase problems than any spec on the sheet. Before you order, confirm: voltage and amperage, plug type, whether a dedicated circuit is required, total cabin weight and floor load, exterior dimensions plus manufacturer-recommended clearances, interior ceiling height, the delivery path through doorways and stairwells, and the assembly method and realistic assembly time.
Many one- and two-person infrared cabins run on 120V, but larger cabins and full-spectrum models frequently require a dedicated 20A circuit or 240V service. Full-spectrum heating
Full-spectrum is a feature, not a quality grade. Near-, mid-, and far-infrared wavelengths interact differently with tissue, but effectiveness depends on the wavelength delivered, heater placement, output, distance from the body, and session protocol. Buyers should verify that each claimed wavelength is produced by a documented emitter rather than relying on the “full-spectrum” label alone.
Carbon panels emit primarily far-infrared. A cabin marketed as full-spectrum should identify a distinct near- or mid-infrared heat element — typically a halogen or quartz emitter — with its own wattage. If the specification sheet lists only carbon panels, treat “full-spectrum” as marketing language.

App control is a convenience feature that changes how often people actually use a sauna — real value, but not evidence of build quality. Verify that the app is brand-owned rather than a generic white-label controller, and get the model list in writing. Red Flags When Evaluating Any Infrared Sauna
- “Full-spectrum” with only carbon panels listed. No distinct near- or mid-infrared emitter means no full spectrum.
